Christian Scholarships for Theological Education

Scholarships offer educational opportunities for those who might not otherwise be able to afford them. Most scholarships focus on criteria such as need, academic accomplishments or minority status. Many scholarships are specifically available in a particular area of study, such as a certain area of science or literature. Religious-based scholarships also are available.

  1. Dissertation Fellows Program

    • This program awards at least five African-American students, who are currently enrolled in a Ph.D. or Th.D. program, with a maximum of $15,000 each. The award is for students whose dissertations have been approved and will be ready to begin writing full-time in the fall of the year the award is received. The recipient must be a full time student and a U.S. citizen. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1 of each year.

    Doctoral Fellows Program

    • This program awards up to $15,000 for at least five first-year African-American students, studying for a Ph.D. or Th.D. in either religious or theological studies. Attendance at a summer conference is also part of this award. Students who already are enrolled in a Ph.D. or Th.D. program will not be considered. The applicant must be a full-time college student and a U.S. citizen. The deadline to apply for this award is March 1 each year.

    Ministry Fellows Program

    • This award is available to at least 40 students who are preparing for their first year in the Masters of Divinity program. This program also offers a $5,000 stipend for a summer project, as well as attendance at a summer conference and other enrichment opportunities. This award is available to U.S. and Canadian citizens who are full-time college students. Those already enrolled in the master's program will not be considered. The application deadline is April 1 of each year.

    North American Doctoral Fellows Program

    • This award is offered to at least 10 minority students who are enrolled in religious Ph.D. or Th.D. programs. It offers up to $5,000 per recipient. The awardee must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada. The recipient must also be a full-time student. The program is offered to Native American, Eskimo, Asian, African-

      American and Hispanic applicants in particular. The deadline to apply for this program is March 1 each year.
