Firefox 2 Requirements
Firefox is a free, commonly-used Internet browser. As of December, 2010 43.5 percent of Internet users use Firefox while the next in line is Internet Explorer with 27.5 percent. The current version of Firefox is 3.6.13, as of January, 2011 but Firefox 2 is still supported by developers. Running any software--browsers included--requires certain system requirements.

Operating System
-
Firefox 2 is designed to work on multiple operating systems including many versions of Microsoft Windows including Windows 98, 98 SE, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Vista. It supports Apple Macintosh on Mac OSX 10.2.x and higher and Linux supports kernel 2.2.14 and needs packages glibc 2.3.2, gtk+ 2.0,XFree86-3.3.6, xft and libstdc++5.
RAM
-
Requirements for the computer's random access memory, or RAM, vary depending on the operating system that you are running. Memory is required to run the browser. Windows and Linux systems need a minimum of 64 MB of RAM but recommend 128 MB. Macs need 128 MB at a minimum and maximum of 256 MB. You will want to have more memory available, especially if you want to have multiple instances of Firefox open or multiple tabs open at once for multi-tasking.
-
Processor
-
Windows systems should have at least a Pentium with 500 MHz, while the minimum is 233 MHz. Linux systems need either an Intel Pentium II or AMD K6-III. The minimum speed is 233 MHz, while the recommended is 500 MHz or greater. Macs require either an Intel x86 or PowerPC G3, G4 or G5.The processor allows the program to operate in a smooth manner without impacting the system performance negatively. A lack of processing power can make it difficult to run Firefox.
Space
-
Firefox is a relatively small program and requires 52 MB of hard drive space on systems running Microsoft Windows and Linux, while Macs require at least 200 MB. The Firefox installation file itself is a mere 8 MB and extracts to the larger size once you run it on your computer. You may need additional hard drive space if you use extensions to increase the functionality of Firefox or intend to create many user profiles so many different users can use the program and have individual user settings.
