Medical Billing Interview Questions
Medical billers are responsible for reviewing patients' files to obtain information to submit insurance payment claims. They also track claims, answer patients' billing questions and prepare accounts receivable reports. Given the depth of detailed knowledge required to submit and track insurance claims, potential medical billing employees may face some very specific job interview questions.
-
Experience
-
You may be asked about your experience in medical billing. For example, the interviewer may want to know how long you have been a medical biller. Some employers are interested in working mainly with individuals who have at least two years of experience in the medical billing field and who are certified medical billers.
Specialties
-
You may be asked about medical conditions for which you have extensive experience submitting claims. This is important for physicians' offices that provide specialized care to one or a few types of patients. Having extensive knowledge of common procedures and diagnoses in the area of health care a doctor specializes in can be helpful in landing some medical billing jobs.
-
Contribution
-
Another question you may encounter is how you will benefit a particular employer's medical billing department. Focus on your certifications, specializations, follow-through, customer service and other office skills you possess (such as error-free typing, which can reduce mistakes in billing and improve billing processing time).
Technical
-
The interviewer may ask you questions about medical billing to see how knowledgeable you are in your field. For example, you may be asked the name of the forms professional claims are turned in on, or what various acronyms stand for. Be able to answer these questions confidently. If necessary, review your coursework from your training program before the interview.
