Choose a time every week that you dedicate to cleaning the house.

In Greek Mythology, the character Sisyphus was doomed to a a life where the moment he rolled a boulder to the top of the hill, he would watch it roll back down. Cleaning house can give you the same exact feeling. The moment you finish cleaning, it is almost time to start all over again. Between the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms, it can all be a bit overwhelming. However, if you employ a few strategies to attack house cleaning, you can make things easier when it is time to pick up the old mop. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Create a Checklist

    • A checklist will allow you to see everything that needs to be done as you clean the house. It will also give you a sense of accomplishment as you move through the duties and check each one off the list. Create a checklist that is specific to each room. For instance, in the bedroom, the check list might include dusting, making the beds, emptying the garbage and vacuuming. You can re-use your checklist the following week when it is time to start again.

    Group Like Rooms Together

    • When you are cleaning a bathroom, you might use one set of disinfectants, and when you are cleaning a bedroom, you might use another. Clean "like rooms" at the same time. For instance, when you clean the bathroom, you will probably need toilet bowl cleaner, disinfectant with bleach, shower cleaner, and a vacuum or mop. Knock out all the bathrooms in your house at once so that you save time instead of getting those items and putting them away each time. The same can be performed with the bedrooms in the house as well.

    Clean Top to Bottom

    • Invariably as you clean kitchen counters, dining room tables, bathroom vanities and more, there will debris which falls to the ground. Clean higher surfaces before lower ones. This will save you the headache of having to sweep or vacuum twice, and ensure that you get all of the debris off the floors. Also, when vacuuming, be sure to use the hose attachments on the base boards as debris which falls from higher places tends to collect in those areas.

    Remove Clutter Frequently

    • When items start to pile up, they make the entire room seem messy. At the end of each day work to remove clutter from the kitchen table, shelves and counters. This will make your tidying up easier when perform a more in-depth cleaning. Switch to as many electronic documents as possible to lower the amount of paper mail you receive. This will help cut down on the clutter as well.
