Maytag Dryer Model SDG515DAWW Will Not Turn On

Maytag dryers, to include the SD-5 models, can incur operating difficulties no matter how old they are. While there may be common causes for this function not related to the dryer, other issues may be dryer-specific, such as the Maytag SD-5's door position. Regardless, troubleshooting a Maytag dryer that won't turn on can still save you money by avoiding calling a repairman to fix something you can do on your own.

Power Supply

Blown fuses can keep power from reaching the dryer.

Sometimes your dryer's power problems start with the power supply. Look at your circuit breaker box to see if any breakers associated with your Maytag Dryer are popped. If so, inspect the fuses to see if they are intact. Broken fuses will prevent power to your dryer's power outlet. Examine the power cord and respective outlet for damage. Dryer Door

If you reversed the door's original installation, double check that the door is mating completely with the dryer.

Missing certain steps, like selecting the temperature or duration, might prevent the dryer from coming on.

Internal Issues

An ohm meter can test wire resistance in your dryer's electrical parts.

Your Maytag dryer may not turn on because of an internal electrical issue. Examine your dryer's wiring schematics, particularly the ones related to drying cycles. Use an ohm-meter to ensure cycle indicator wiring is getting the proper resistance. If your dryer only turns on for certain cycles, there may be damage to the cycle signaling process. If you are not comfortable using an ohm-meter, consult a professional repairman.
