Advertisements As a Marketing Strategy
Advertisements can be a significant part of any company's marketing strategy. The key with advertisements is to keep the profitable ones running consistently. You can test your advertisements by using unique codes in various ads. For example, use "Department BO1" within the address of your advertisement to represent the January edition "Business Opportunities" magazine. That way you can specifically track the revenue and expenses from a particular ad to determine if the ad is profitable.

Targeting Advertisements
-
An important thing about placing advertisements is choosing the right publication, according to Entrepreneur magazine. Advertise in magazines or newspapers that your customers are likely to read. For example, advertise your protein shakes in bodybuilding magazines like "Muscle & Fitness," "Muscular "Development" or "Iron Man." Magazines and newspapers have certain demographic groups to whom they appeal. For example, a hunting magazine may primarily target men, ages 25 to 54, who work in blue-collar jobs. Call magazines in which you plan to advertise. Ask your magazine representatives to send you rate cards of the various ads they offer. That way you can estimate how much your advertisements will cost you each month.
Types of Ads
-
You can run different types of advertisements in magazines, newspapers and newsletters. Classified ads are highly cost-effective. You will usually pay a set price for each line of copy in a classified ad. Another type of advertisement is the display ad. Display ads com in several different sizes. Some display ads are the size of business cards, while other ones take up one or more pages in a magazine. Display ads can pull in lots of leads or orders for your business. However, you will need to decide if you have the budget for display ads. You will not be able to place as many display ads as classified ads because display ads usually cost more money.

About Headlines
-
Start all your advertisements out with a strong headline that appeals to your target customers. Include a major benefit in your headline as well, according to Entrepreneur. The headline will be your first line of copy in the advertisement. Use a headline such as, "Get Whiter Teeth In Only Two Weeks," for example, if your are selling teeth whitening products. Your teeth whitening headline will appeal specifically to people who want whiter teeth. Make your headline slightly larger than the rest of your ad copy. Use bold and italics in your classified display advertisement headlines to get more attention.
AIDA Principle in Advertising
-
Any advertisement your write or place should follow the AIDA (attention, interest, desire, action). Attract the consumer or business customer's attention with the headline. Write convincing copy that builds people's interest in your products or services. Build the desirability of your offer in your advertisement. For example, tell people that your restaurant sells "large succulent steaks" or "mouthwatering butter potatoes." Make your offer so irresistible that people will feel compelled to buy your products. You can also prompt people to buy with a limited time offer. For example, tell people they can save $2.00 on a steak dinner, for example, if they come in by January 15. Keep the time frame of your offer limited to one to four weeks. The limited time offer allows you to use the term "special deal" more credibly.
