It features 2-inch-wide, cup-shaped blooms that grow in a wide range of colors including, white, pink, dark red and creamy yellow. Hellebore produces glossy, dark green foliage that is deeply-cut and divided into narrow, toothed segments. The evergreen foliage on hellebore is lance to elliptic in shape and, as an evergreen, retains its color year-round. The flowers on astilbe form the densely packed, erect to arching, plume-like flowers that appear to be rising out of the foliage on the upright stems. Astilbe produce fern-like mounds of foliage that are ovate- to lance-shaped and sharply toothed. Astilbe grows best in part to full shade and well-drained, moist soil that is humus-rich. Goat's beard (Aruncus dioicus) is a clump forming, bushy perennial plant that grows 4 to 6 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide. Goat's beard produces spikes of small, creamy colored blooms that emerge in early to mid summer and above the foliage. It produces dark green, compound foliage that creates a showy display. Goat's beard grows best in full sun to part shade and well-drained, moist soil. Grow goat's beard in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4 to 8.
