What Are Good-Paying Jobs for High School Students?
A lot of high school kids work in retail or fast food. While these are good first jobs for many young people, the pay may not be so great. There are jobs available that will allow high school students to earn a decent amount of money. Ask the adults you know if their place of business hires teens. Sometimes all you need is a good reference from an employee and you are in.

Factory Work
-
Factory jobs are often well-paying jobs, but they are hard on a lot of people due to the required physical labor. That makes factory jobs good opportunities for high school students, since students have a lot of energy and do not usually have aches and pains. Often, factories use high school students for temporary positions over the summer months and during the holidays, depending on what type of factory it is. Sometimes factories offer paying internships for high school students. These internships might also come with a scholarship for furthering your education or a promise of a higher-paying job after graduation when you can work full-time hours.
Waiting Tables
-
While many restaurants only pay their waiters a minimal hourly rate, you can earn quite a bit more money from tips. If you are good with the public, steady on your feet and attentive to people's needs, waiting tables might be for you. If you do not want to work a lot of hours, but only on the weekends, that is when you can make the most money at a restaurant. Depending on what locality you live in and what class of restaurant you work in, you could bring home $100 to $200 a night in tips.

Retail
-
Some retail jobs will pay more than others, especially if you can get into a higher-class store that not only offers you a base pay, but also offers commission on certain items or departments of the store. Offer to work as many night and weekend hours as you possibly can as that is most likely when the store will be busiest, offering you more opportunities to make money on commission.
Temporary Work
-
Temporary jobs are good for people who are out of work and will take anything they can find, but they are also good for high school students. You can find temporary jobs where you can just work during the summer months or over the holidays. One of the good things about temporary jobs is that you can gain experience in your desired field of study. When you fill out the application, write down what type of jobs you are interested in. When you work at temporary jobs, often you can request to be hired onto the company full time after working there a while. The company will be more likely to hire you knowing that you can do the job well rather than hire some unknown person off the street that needs training.
