The Average Salary of Mortgage Telemarketers

The Average Salary of Mortgage Telemarketers thumbnail
Telemarketers can work almost anywhere in the country.

Telemarketers use telephone systems to call and solicit potential customers to get them interested in a wide range of products or services. Mortgage telemarketers are those who deal primarily with mortgages or other real estate related services. The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not differentiate telemarketers based on the kinds of products they sell, so the salary information detailed here may be slightly different for telemarketers who only deal in mortgages or other real estate instruments.

  1. National Averages

    • The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there were an estimated 307,730 telemarketers in the United States in 2009. Telemarketers earned an average salary of about $11.90 an hour or $24,760 per year. Telemarketers in the top 10th percentile of earners made an average of $18.11 per hour or about $37,660 per year, while those in the lowest 10th percentile of earners made about $7.50 an hour or about $15,760 a year.

    Most Common Sectors

    • The "business support services" sector of the industry employed nearly half of all the telemarketers employed in 2009 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The estimated 153,280 workers in the sector earned an average of $10.60 per hour or about $22,050 per year. Telemarketers employed in the second-largest sector, "management, scientific and technical consulting services," earned an average of $12.88 per hour or about $26,780 a year.

    Highest Paying Statea

    • The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that telemarketers working in Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut had the highest salaries out of all states in 2009. Those in the highest paying state, Massachusetts, earned an average salary of $16.41 per hour or about $34,140 per year. Those in the fifth highest paying state, Connecticut, earned an average of $14.50 per hour or about $30,160 a year.

    Highest Paying Metro Areas

    • Telemarketer salaries also differed significantly based on the city or metropolitan area in which the worker was employed in 2009 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The city with the highest average telemarketer salaries in 2009 was Nashua, New Hampshire, where these workers earned an average of $24.56 per hour, or about $51,090 per year.
