How to Apply for Veterans Disability

In order to apply for veterans disability benefits, a veteran must complete VA Form 21-526. The application can be completed online. If you need help with the application, you may call 800-827-1000. You will need your discharge papers (DD214), marriage or dependency records and medical records. Once the VA reviews your application, they will respond in writing indicating what additional information is needed. They will help you secure the documentation if needed. You may also be sent for a medical examination as part of the application process.
