Scholarships for Kentucky Teachers

Kentucky college students studying education can fund their tuition with a number of scholarships specifically for future teachers. These aspiring teachers can apply for scholarships administered by state organizations or individual universities. Some scholarships depend on the student's financial need, while others consider the student's academic success. These scholarships reduce the amount that Kentucky education majors pay out of pocket to earn their degree.

  1. Teacher Scholarship Program

    • The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority administers the Teacher Scholarship Program to education majors in Kentucky. Applicants must be taking full-time courses in a teacher-certification program in the state. In addition, they need to show financial need and meet the minimum GPA requirements for their Kentucky college of education. Freshman and sophomore education students can earn $625 a semester, while juniors, seniors and graduate students receive $2,500 a semester.

    Kentucky Association of Professional Educators

    • The Kentucky Association of Professional Educators awards scholarships to celebrate the success of student-teachers in the state. State student teachers can apply to show their ability to put students' needs first. Student-teachers receive a scholarship of up to $5,000 in both the fall and spring semesters. Applicants submit an application as well as a statement about their family, educational history and teaching history.

University of Kentucky College of Education

    • The University of Kentucky College of Education distributes a number of scholarships to its students. Female education students with academic success as well as financial need can apply for the Opal T. and Theresa W. Bondurant Scholarship. The James and Patsy Bradbury Undergraduate Scholarship in Elementary Education goes to full-time juniors and seniors in the College of Education, preferably from Madison, Wolfe, Perry or Breathitt counties in Kentucky. One incoming student graduating from a Lexington-area high school earns a scholarship as well.

Eastern Kentucky University College of Education

    • Education students studying at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in Richmond can apply for a number of scholarships. Full-time education students who graduated from a public Kentucky high school and have a GPA of at least 2.8 can apply for the Juanita Losey Scholarship.
