Dallas County, Texas, residents may either file their divorce papers at the county court or choose to participate in the state's e-Filing program. In order to divorce in Dallas County District Court, couples must meet the state and county residency requirements. Texas limits who can file for divorce in the state and each particular county. According to state law, either spouse must have lived in Texas for at least six months before one of the parties can file for divorce in a Texas court. An individual can only file for divorce in Dallas County if the individual or his spouse has resided in the county for at least 90 days.

Dallas County District Court is one of the county court systems participating in the e-Filing initiative provided by the state of Texas. The state e-Filing program is available at the Texas.gov website through the "e-Filing For Courts" program. As the e-Filing program accepts family court filings for both new and ongoing cases, individuals may choose to file for divorce using the program.
