Horsepower of a Ford V8 4.6L Engine

Since the mid 1990s, a 4.6-liter V-8 engine has been used in a number of Ford vehicles. The V-8 can be found under the hood of the Crown Victoria, F-150, Explorer and Mustang. Horsepower and torque vary by year, model and fuel type. A number of Ford vehicles offer several variants of the engine in the same engine compartment.
1996 Ford Mustang
The 1996 Ford Mustang uses two variations of the 4.6-liter V-8. The Mustang GT's engine has a 3.6-inch bore and stroke, 16 valves, a single overhead camshaft and a 9:1 compression ratio. The Cobra's 4.6-liter engine is designed with a 3.55-inch bore, 3.54-inch stroke, 32 valves, a dual overhead camshaft and 9.9:1 compression ratio. The Mustang GT's 4.6-liter V-8 produces 215 horsepower at 4,500 rpm and 290 pound-feet of torque at 3,250 rpm. The Cobra's engine spawns 305 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 300 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm.
2001 Ford Crown Victoria
The 2001 Ford Crown Victoria has three variations of a 4.6-liter V-8 engine. The first uses compressed natural gas for fuel. The natural gas engine produces 175 horsepower at 4,500 rpm and 235 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. The other two engines use gasoline and provide varying levels of horsepower The second 4.6-liter engine generates 220 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 265 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. The third V-8 cranks out 225 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 286 pound-feet of torque 3,500 rpm.
2006 Ford F-150
A 4.6-liter V-8 engine is the standard power plant for all 2006 Ford F-150s with four-wheel drive. The engine features 16 valves, a single overhead camshaft, a 3.55-inch bore, a 3.54-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 9.4:1. The design produces 231 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 293 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm.
2010 Ford Mustang
After 14 years, the Ford Mustang GT is still powered by a 4.6-liter V-8 engine. Horsepower has improved to 315 at 6,000 rpm, and torque is up to 325 pound-feet at 4,250 rpm.
2010 Ford Explorer
Ford's 4.6-liter V-8 is optional in the 2010 Explorer Limited. The optional V-8 has 24 valves, a single overhead camshaft, a 3.54-inch stroke, a 3.55-inch bore and a 9.8:1 compression ratio. The engine has 292 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 315 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm.
