The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation administers state-funded educational grants in Tennessee. Since 2004, the majority of Tennessee's educational grants receive funding from Lottery Tennessee. Full-time and part-time students can receive grant awards to attend private and public colleges and universities. Grant eligibility can require students to hold and maintain a specified GPA, meet income and asset limits and meet residency obligations.

  1. Tennessee Hope Access Grant

    • As of 2010, the Tennessee Hope Assess Grant awards up to $2,750 to students attending four-year post-secondary schools or two-year schools that offer housing to students on campus. Students attending two-year schools that do not offer housing can receive up to $1,750.

Candidates must have an average GPA of 2.75, an ACT score of 18 to 20, or an SAT score of 860 to 970. The program requires students to meet income limits and candidates must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid application through the FAFSA website.

    Tennessee Student Assistance Awards

    • The Tennessee Student Assistance Awards provides funding for undergraduate students with a financial need. The program requires candidates to enroll as part-time or full-time students, hold Tennessee residency and attend an eligible public or private post-secondary school in Tennessee.

Applicants must complete a FAFSA application, maintain a satisfactory academic status and meet family financial contribution limits. TSAC defines maximum award amounts for the grant program and school financial aid offices can revise individual grant awards.

    Helping Heroes Grant

    • TSAC awards the Helping Heroes Grant to honorably discharged veterans with an Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal or Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. Current Tennessee National Guard or Reserve members can apply for the grant.

Candidates must hold Tennessee residency, cannot have a bachelor's degree and must enroll in coursework at an eligible four-year or two-year post-secondary school.

The program awards $1,000 to students who complete a minimum of 12 semester hours and students who complete six to 11 hours can receive $500, as of 2010.

Candidates can download an application on the TSAC website for submission by mail.

    Dual Enrollment Grant

    • Students attending high school and also taking college courses at an eligible post-secondary school can apply for the Dual Enrollment Grant. Applicants must hold Tennessee residency and can receive up to $600 per school year, as of 2010. Candidates can apply for the Dual Enrollment Grant at the TSAC website.

    Hope Foster Child Tuition Grant

    • Tennessee residents who spent one year or more, at the age of 14 or older, in Tennessee Department of Children's Services custody can apply for the Hope Foster Child Tuition Grant. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for the Tennessee Hope Access Grant or Tennessee Hope Scholarship.

The Hope Foster Child Tuition Grant pays for all tuition and required fees, but can reduce funding if a student receives other gift funds, grants or scholarships. Foster children remain eligible for the program for up to four years after graduating from high school or up to six years after enrolling at an eligible post-secondary school.
