Should a Company Only Rely on the Internet to Market Its Business?
The Internet can be a valuable tool in your marketing arsenal. You can reach prospects and customers from around the world, as well as use audio and video to effectively present your products and services. However, it is usually not a good idea to rely solely on Internet marketing.
-
No Personal Touch
-
If you rely solely on Internet marketing, prospects and customers may view your business as simply a website address instead of one entity managed by a live human. If your business is local in scope, enhance your marketing efforts by getting out into the community and meeting prospects and customers in person. People will feel more comfortable knowing that if they have a problem or complaint, somebody will be there to give them assistance and they'll get more than just an automated email response.
Lost in the Online Shuffle
-
With the large number of websites available to consumers, many of which may offer the same types of products and services as yours, it can be easy to be seen as just another website address. Even if people come across your website or online ad, they may only spend a second or two before moving on unless something catches their eyes immediately. You may have better success by adding a carefully crafted and targeted newspaper, radio or television ad to your marketing strategy.

Missing Your Target Market
-
If you market your business only online, you may not be able to reach a portion of your market. Despite their pervasiveness, not everyone owns a computer. If your products or services appeal to retirees, for example, you may find that not as many are computer users when compared to younger people. And if the Internet is the only place where consumers can buy your products, you can miss making sales to prospects who fear online shopping due to privacy and security issues.
Technical Difficulties
-
Internet marketing requires some technical expertise. If you are "technologically challenged," you will likely have difficulty developing an effective online marketing campaign. You may need to hire an Internet marketing firm to provide assistance, which can be costly. If you rely on a website to market your business and the site experiences technical problems, you have no other way to reach prospects. A website also requires a great deal of maintenance to remain current and fresh.
