The United States Naval Academy has a few basic requirements of all applicants. You must be between the ages of 17 and 23 as of July 1 of the year you plan to enter the academy. You must be unmarried with no dependents. Women cannot be pregnant. All applicants must be United States citizens. The academy requires that all applicants have good moral character and a background check will be done on all applicants.
Standardized Testing

Like most colleges, the United States Naval Academy requires all applicants to take either the Scholastic Assessment Test or the American College Test. For those who take the tests multiple times, you will have the highest score in each category entered into consideration for the academy. Unofficial versions of the test, including scores from untimed tests, are not eligible for consideration. Students may prequalify with their PSAT scores, but these will not be used in the final determination on your application.

Physical Condition

Unlike many other colleges, the United States Naval Academy requires that you undergo a medical examination before you are accepted. The Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board will contact you on the basis of your application to determine where you must go for your physical. You will be checked out by a doctor who may request additional information from your medical records regarding illnesses, injuries and conditions. Even if you have a disqualifying condition, you will be automatically submitted for a waiver.

Applications without nominations from official sources will not be considered by the United States Naval Academy. Sources considered for a nomination typically include one of your congressional representatives, senators, or the president or vice president of the United States. Other sources you may receive nominations from include active and reserve members of the Navy and Marine Corps, ROTC units, children of certain servicemen unable to recommend you themselves or children of Medal of Honor recipients.
