California Transportation Foundation Scholarships
Established in 1988, the California Transportation Foundation is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the California Department of Transportation. The organization sponsors programs for employees of the department and hosts annual events like the Transportation Forum. To encourage students to pursue careers related to transportation, the CTF sponsors scholarship programs. General eligibility requirements for all foundation scholarships are U.S. citizenship, permanent residency or proof of being a legal, international student.

Transportation Education Symposium Scholarships
-
The California Transportation Foundation offers scholarships for students who attend the foundation's annual Transportation Education Symposium. Each year, the foundation invites California colleges and universities to nominate the three top juniors and seniors in their civil engineering programs who have an interest in transportation careers to attend the event. Any student who is chosen to attend and comes to the symposium can apply for one of the foundation's symposium scholarships. As of 2010, these awards included the CTF Education Symposium Scholarship, which paid $5,000; the CTF Board Scholarship, which paid $2,500 and the California Transportation Commission Scholarship, which paid $1,000.
District and Location-Based Scholarships
-
The California Transportation Foundation offers some scholarships for students who meet requirements based upon their geographic location. Nine of the 12 California Department of Transportation Districts have scholarships for students who reside within the boundaries of their areas. These awards are available for high school seniors or undergraduate students in any year of study, and typically require an interest in a transportation-related career. Another award, the Buser Memorial Scholarship is for students studying land surveying at California State University in Fresno. The Wyatt Memorial Scholarship provides funding for students enrolled in accounting programs in the greater Sacramento metropolitan area.

Major Specific Scholarships
-
Some California Transportation Foundation Scholarships feature tuition assistance for students in specific academic majors. The Roberts Memorial Scholarship provides funding for high school seniors who intend to major in civil engineering. Another civil engineering award, the G. Langsner Memorial Scholarship, is for students who have interned, worked for or volunteered with the California Department of Transportation. Also intended for students affiliated with the department, the Transportation Scholarship is for students in any transportation-related major besides civil engineering.
Employee Scholarships
-
The California Transportation Foundation also grants scholarships that use a familial relationship with an employee with the Department of Transportation as one of primary eligibility requirements. The Bush Memorial Scholarship is for students in the Oakland Unified School District who have parents that work as maintenance workers in the department's District Four area. The Sudhakar Memorial Scholarship is for high school seniors who are the children of workers employed in any unit or district of the department.
