Grant Money for Animal Spay Neuter Programs
"Don't be a litterbug -- spay or neuter your pet." That bumper sticker is a succinct way of explaining the importance of spaying and neutering to reduce the unwanted pet population. Grant monies to aid spay/neuter programs help provide this important service to people who cannot afford to pay for sterilization and for non-profits organizations to spay/neuter animals in their care before adoption into new homes.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals provides grants for various non-profit 501(c)3 organizations, including high-volume, high quality, spay/neuter programs, Trap-Neuter-Return for feral cats, and specifically targeted spay/neuter initiatives. For grant consideration, organizations must first submit a spay/neuter letter of inquiry including their federal tax identification number. ASPCA officials review the letters and those deemed eligible receive invitations to apply for grants. The entire process from application to awarding of the grant takes approximately 90 days.
Petsmart Charities Targeted Spay/Neuter Program

Grants for this very competitive program target specifically document segments of a community with a demonstrated need for low-cost spay/neuter services. Documentation by the applicant must include local shelter intake and euthanasia rates along with other data. Detailed plans to serve the targeted community, whether it is a certain geographic, animal or demographic segment, must accompany the application. Funded organizations must provide continuous data both during the project and afterward to determine the results within the targeted population.

DJ & T Foundation

Founded by "The Price is Right" host and animal advocate Bob Barker, the DJ & T Foundation awards two different types of spay/neuter grants. The first funds the establishment of mobile or on-site spay/neuter clinics, while the second grant underwrites low-cost canine sterilization through eligible non-profit organizations for people who cannot afford to pay for surgeries. Only companion dogs, with an owner, are eligible for spay/neuter funding. Shelter dogs or those fostered by the funded program cannot be sterilized with these funds. The grantee must emphasize the sterilization of large and medium sized dogs over small dogs, including puppies.
Petco Foundation National Spay/Neuter Drive

Each year, the foundation wing of this national pet store chain funds thousands of spay/neuter surgeries all over the country. Grant recipients are selected by individual Petco stores from eligible 501(c)3 non-profit organizations. Organizations which conduct surgeries or use referrals may apply for grants.
