Fortune 500 scholarships give students a nice chunk of change to support their studies.

Many corporations across the country invest their funds in the communities and regions where they work. Fortune 500 companies often offer scholarship programs. Each company that gives an award has different requirements. After reading about some of the available scholarships, you should visit the list of Fortune 500 companies that CNN has compiled and spend some time reading about what each company has to offer.

  1. Walmart

    • Walmart offers several scholarships, like its Walmart Associate Scholarship, for Walmart store workers who show financial need and are active in their communities. The Sam Walton Community Scholarship gives $3,000 to high school seniors who show financial need, and the Walmart Dependent Scholarship gives the same amount to dependents of Walmart associates.

    Coca Cola

    • The Coca Cola Scholars Program gives $20,000 to 50 students around the country, and $10,000 to 200 students. Students are chosen based on achievement, and if selected as semifinalists, they complete an essay. A selection committee interviews the finalists. Students must be in high school and, as with many company scholarships, may not work for the company or be the children or grandchildren of people working for it.

    Bank of America

    • Bank of America's Joe Martin Scholarship gives $1,000 to $5,000 to dependents of employees for each school year. The company chooses applicants based on achievement, including community service and leadership, as well as financial need.

    General Electric

    • This company offers awards-based achievement, including academic performance, extracurricular activities, volunteering and a personal essay. Like some Fortune 500 companies, General Electric gives awards to the children of its employees. The award provides $3,500 to students going to a four-year college, and $1,500 to students at two-year colleges, for freshman-year expenses. It also gives $500 awards to high school students. The number of awards may vary by year.

    J. P. Morgan Chase

    • Regional scholarships like J. P. Morgan Chase's program can narrow the competition, if you live in the region. J.P. Morgan Chase's Thomas G. Labrecque Smart Start Program gives full-tuition scholarships to New York City students who wish to attend a school on its list, and givs them paid internships through the duration of college. The Louisiana Smart Start Program provides full-tuition scholarships for African-American students who are residents of Louisiana and will be attending a four-year college in Lousiana.
