What Is Required on a Job Application?
A complete picture of your job history and personal information is what a job application tries to capture on just a few pieces of paper. It is a way for employers to get as rounded a view of you before a job interview as possible. Be honest and complete in all of your answers on the job application. Write neatly, and read the instructions thoroughly to demonstrate your ability to follow instructions and be an organized employee.

Personal Information
-
Your name (both current and former), address, phone number, email address and other contact information are required, usually in the first section, of a job application. Alternate phone numbers may also be requested. Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers may be required.
Education And Employment History
-
The job application instructions ask you to write down your previous jobs and schools or training programs. This is usually asked for in reverse chronological order. You will need the dates you attended a particular training program or school, or dates you worked at a particular job. Some job applications ask you to list each job title as a separate position, even if you worked at the same company, so know the dates you worked in a specific capacity. Locations of schools and employers may also be requested. Specific addresses, phone numbers, number of hours worked, names of supervisors, supervisors' job titles, job responsibilities and accomplishments may be requested. You may be asked for your previous salaries in jobs.

Written Interview Questions And Skills
-
Some job applications require you to write down responses to how you would handle specific situations on the job, what your philosophies are regarding the industry or line of work, or other typical interview questions. You may be asked what your strengths and weaknesses are or why you want to work for that specific company, for example.
Some job applications have a space for you to list other skills and interests you have. This is where you can note your computer skills, specific systems you are familiar with relevant to the job, other languages you speak and organizations (not religious or political) of which you are a member relevant to the position.
References
-
References will likely be required on the application. Be sure you have an address, job title, phone number and email address for at least three professional references with you when you fill out the job application.
Signatures
-
Your signature will be required to testify that you filled out the application honestly and did not leave out any information. You may have to sign that you give permission to the employer to call past references or conduct a background check, or that you submit to a drug test. You may also be asked to fill out ethnic, racial and gender-related information at the end of the job application.
