You can make money doing just about anything that you are good at or enjoy, especially if it is something that other people are not adept at or hate to do. Employ your skills and talents to make some money on the side.

  1. Computers and Technology

    • Offer your knowledge of computers, televisions, remote controls, video games and other technology to people who have no idea how to set up and use their cool new gadgets.

    Baby-sitting

    • Watching a couple of kids here and there throughout the month can bring in extra income. Watching them in your own home is even easier if you have children. Another option is to play chauffeur and drive kids around in the afternoons or before school. If a child has a parent that has to leave early for work, you can help the child get ready and drive her to school. Kids with after school activities also often need transportion.

    Pet-sitting

    • Post a pet-sitting advertisement in your local newspaper or on a free online classifieds site. People will pay you to watch their houses, feed the dog, pet the cat and bring in the mail while they are on vacation. You can even charge extra for doing extras besides taking care of the animals.

    Clean Yards

    • Some people really like yard work, and some do not. Those who do not will gladly pay to have someone else plant the spring flowers in the front of the house, weed the garden or rake leaves. Throughout the year, some kind of yard work can be done. Even in the winter, cleaning out the flower beds and trimming back bushes can be done when weather permits.

    Handyman

    • If you are mechanically inclined, sell your services as a person who can repair a hole in the wall, install a light fixture or haul away superfluous junk sitting in people's garages. You can charge per job or by the hour.

    Rent a Room

    • If you have an extra room in your house, and you do not mind having a new roommate, rent it out. Maintenance and dealing with extra noise will be your main jobs.

    Run Errands

    • Drive people to the airport, pick up their dry cleaning, go grocery shopping and to the post office for them. People will pay you to do the things that have to get done during the day.

    Freelance

    • Hire your graphic design, translating, writing/editing, virtual assistant and transcription skills out on freelance sites such as ODesk, Elance and other sites specific to the type of work you want to do. Do this on a part-time basis. You will need a high-speed Internet connection and computer to get started.

    Tutor Online

    • Several sites such as Buddy School and Forte Mall allow you to offer your own classes in whatever area of expertise you have (see Resources.) Other sites offer tutoring services to students, and they hire you to tutor. Tutoring online for English as a second language is one popular subject in addition to traditional subjects.
