Grants are available for studying religious resources.

Tuition, books, boarding -- the costs of going to a college or university add up quickly. Many organizations and academic institutions offer grants and scholarships to students who meet certain criteria. Religious institutions, in particular, offer financial help in an effort to support the education of believers. Organizations such as the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools offer financial aid to followers of the Southern Baptist faith.

  1. John R. Chandler Outstanding Musician

    • The John R. Chandler Outstanding Musician scholarship is offered through the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools. This program provides college support services and financial awards to high school students with strong musical talent through singing or playing an instrument. They must attend a school that is a member of the SBACS. SBACS sends information about selected students' achievements to Southern Baptist and Christian post-secondary institutions to encourage their acceptance. Top regional students selected into the program receive a $500 college scholarship and the national winner receives $1,000.

BR Chamberlain Foundation Outstanding SBACS Scholar

    • The Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools also offers the Outstanding SBACS Scholar program. High school seniors at member schools with excellent academic achievement and who exhibit strong Christian character are eligible. Applicants must have an SAT score of at least 1250 or an ACT score of 28 in addition to a 3.5 GPA. Four finalists will receive a $500 scholarship and the top scholar receives $1,000. The funds are sent directly to the students' colleges. The winning students' high schools also receive a financial award of $100 to $250.

    Church Matching Grants

    • Some Christian colleges and universities offer church matching grants as a form of financial aid, such as Tennessee's Belmont University and Arkansas's Ouachita Baptist University. These academic institutions will match students' church scholarships up to $250. Interested students must submit their church's scholarship information to prospective colleges to provide documentation that the church is a member of the appropriate religious association. The Ouachita program matches grants from any Southern Baptist church, while Belmont University requires the church be a member of a Baptist church located in Tennessee.

Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives Study Grants

    • The Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives maintains the religion's history and records for the Southern Baptist Convention. Established in 1938, the SBC offers study grants to graduate students, professors, writers and historians to study in the Historical Library and Archives in Nashville, Tennessee. Applicants must provide detailed information about their research project including topic, purpose and length. They must also explain their financial need and the necessity of using the library's sources for the project. Grants are available for up to $750.
