How to Become a Plus Sized Teen Model
Entering the modeling world is a challenge for any teen, especially so for plus-sized teens who are not in as high demand in the modeling industry. Before you jump into the often cutthroat world of modeling, educate yourself about the industry and what it takes to succeed. Also, look inside yourself to build self-confidence so that you can feel comfortable in front of the camera and handle the criticism and rejection that is a part of the industry with grace.

Boost your Self-Confidence
-
As a plus-sized teen, you might not feel as comfortable in your own skin as other young women your age. Because you need to exude confidence during photo shoots, it is important that you love how you look. As you begin your modeling career, pamper yourself with a head-to-toe makeover. You don't want to drastically change your look, but you do want to play up your best features. If you have ice blue eyes, let a professional makeup artist show you how to make them stand out. If your long chestnut locks are your best trait, have a stylist cut them in a way to frame and flatter your face.
Meet with a Modeling Agency
-
Seek out a modeling agency in your area that specializes in plus-sized modeling. Some agencies do not work with plus-sized models, so take time to find the right agency that is willing to work with your size. Once you find an agency that caters to plus-sized teen models, call the agency and ask if it is hosting an open call soon. Alternatively, you can offer to send in a head shot for consideration.

Consider the Criteria
-
Just like other types of modeling, plus-sized teen models have to meet certain criteria to describe themselves as "plus sized." According to Daily Venus Diva, a plus-sized e-magazine, plus-sized models normally wear sizes 12 to 18 but need to have a toned physique. If you're smaller or larger than these sizes, landing plus-sized modeling gigs might be difficult.
Build a Portfolio
-
Start working on your plus-sized modeling portfolio now, even before you land your first job. If you have a friend who is an amateur photographer, let her take photos of you in different settings to show your range as a print model. Or, hire a professional photographer, who can capture your best look in a tasteful way. Focus on photos that show off -- not hide -- your curves. Wear figure-flattering outfits, and choose a mix of daytime and nighttime looks.
