How Will I Know If I Have the Right Job?
Whether you have been working at your current job for several months or several years, you may find yourself questioning if your job is really right for you. Working at the right job is often a trial and error process, and you may need to work at several jobs before finding the one that makes you feel happy and fulfilled. Your emotions can generally be used as a key factor in determining if you have the right job.
-
You Are Compensated Well
-
While money is not the most important thing in measuring whether your job is right for you, it is a major deciding factor. If your current job does not compensate you well and you find yourself struggling each month to pay your bills, it may be time to consider finding a new job. However, if your job provides you with enough money to live comfortably or luxuriously, your job may be right for you.
You Feel Happy
-
Your job should bring you some kind of happiness and you should enjoy what you do for a living. If you find that you are constantly upset, agitated or dread going to work on a daily basis, you are not working in a job that is right for you. If you find that you love what you do and truly take pleasure in going into work each day, you have found the right job.
You Utilize Your Skills and Passions
-
If your job allows you to put your college degree, technical training, skills or interests/hobbies to use on a regular basis, it is likely right for you. Working a job that is unrelated to your education or passions will likely make you feel unhappy and will not provide you with the same fulfillment that a career that utilizes your interests will.
You Feel Fulfilled
-
When working in a job that is not right for you, you may suffer from feelings of longing or emptiness. When you are working in the right job, you will have a sense of fulfillment in your life. If your job makes you feel fulfilled, you will likely have less stress or anger in your life and will instead feel more relaxed, even when working in a high-stress environment.
