Autism Grants & Scholarships for College
Autism is a developmental disorder that affects a person's social and interpersonal skills. College-bound students can apply for two nationally available scholarships being offered for autistic individuals, as of 2010. Scholarships are also available for college students who wish to study autism or work with autistic children.

CVS/All Kids Can Scholarship

The Autism Society of America awards the CVS/All Kids Can Scholarship each year in the amount of $1,000, which may be used to defray the cost of tuition at an accredited college or trade school. The only criteria for eligibility are that a student have autism and that they have been accepted at a post-secondary institution. An applicant must submit a high school transcript, two letters of recommendation and a personal statement of no more than 500 words. An applicant must also submit documentation proving that he has autism, as well as documentation proving that he has been accepted to study at a post-secondary institution. The annual deadline for application is March 31.
The Schwallie Family Scholarship Program

The Organization for Autism Research provides financial assistance to autistic college students through the Schwallie Family Scholarship Program. Three scholarships are awarded each year; one to a student attending a four-year college, one to a student attending a two-year college and one to a student attending a trade school. The Schwallie Family Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $3,000 to a student in each category. To apply, a student must submit a completed scholarship application, one letter of recommendation, documentation proving that he has autism and documentation of acceptance at an accredited post-secondary institution. Lastly, an applicant must also submit an autobiographical essay of 1,000 words or less that includes his reasons for applying for a scholarship.

Texas Tech University Burkhart Center Scholarships

The Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research at Texas Tech University offers two scholarships to students engaged in autism research. The Burkhart Family Fellowship for Autism Education and Research is awarded annually to a doctoral candidate. The scholarship is available to all students in the college of education, including students studying special education. Preference is given to students who are volunteering at the Burkhart Center. Award amounts vary by year. The annual deadline for application is February 1.
Dorothy Lattner Memorial Scholarship

The Autism Society of Montgomery County makes college scholarship money available to educators who wish to further their knowledge of autism through the Dorothy Lattner Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000. To be eligible, an applicant must be employed as an educator in Montgomery County, Alabama. The annual deadline for application is October 31. Applicants must submit a letter of intent, a resume and documentation of student status to the Autism Society of Montgomery County.
