The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there were about 26,450 marriage and family counselors in 2009. These workers earned an average of $23.57 per hour, or about $49,020 per year. The top 10th percentile of family counselors made about $35.39 per hour, or about $73,610 per year, while the lowest 10th percentile earned about $14.07 per hour, or about $29,270 per year.

Those in Hawaii had the highest average wages, earning about $35.61 per hour, or about $74,070 per year, while those in the fifth-highest paying state, Nevada, made about $29.09 per hour, or about $60,510 per year.
