The Coast Guard Academy Requirements for Admission Scholarships
Once accepted to the Coast Guard Academy as a cadet, a student receives a scholarship that pays for all of his tuition and supplies, as well as his room and board. A cadet must only pay an initial $3,000 to cover the cost of a uniform and computer. However, cadets must meet certain requirements before they can be accepted as a cadet and receive an admission scholarship.

An applicant to the United States Coast Guard Academy is required to submit either SAT or ACT standardized test scores along with his application. Although there is no set minimum test score, the scores submitted do play a part in whether or not an applicant is admitted to the Academy as a cadet. In order to be admitted to the Academy, prospective cadets must pass a physical fitness exam consisting of push-ups, sit-ups and a 1.5 mile run. The highest possible score on the physical fitness exam is 300. Students who fail to score a 130 or higher are typically barred from admission. In addition, cadets who fail to achieve a score of 165 or higher by the end of their first semester are usually disenrolled from the Academy.
Medical Exam
-
A prospective cadet is also required to submit to a medical exam conducted by the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board. To be accepted, a candidate must complete her medical exam by April 15 of the year in which she expects to enroll at the Academy, and must be found to qualify by June 1 of that same year.
