Business Ideas for Elder Care
People are living a full decade longer now than their parents did according to ScienceDaily. That means there are more elderly people that require assistance. While they live longer they still face getting older with the accompanying problems and challenges. Assisting them with those challenges is the basis for a profitable business.
-
Companionship
-
Many of the elderly have lost their significant others, friends and family members. Their mobility is restricted so it's difficult for them to see the friends they do have left or make new ones. Providing companionship on a paid basis helps them get rid of some of their loneliness. Set up a business where you, or an employee, visit the elderly client two or three times a week. Be very careful who you hire as there are unscrupulous characters who take advantage of seniors. Bond and insure the employees and yourself to lessen some of the risk.
Computer Instruction
-
According to ZD Net only 21 percent of those older than 70 go online. That means the huge majority don't access the Internet. Lap top computers are relatively inexpensive, easy to carry and set up. Internet access provides the elderly with social interaction through networks, forums, discussion lists, games and niche specific sites. It also provides information on health care, nutrition, Medicare and other topics of interest to seniors. Provide basic instruction on how to use the computer, get online, search and set up profiles. Charge on an hourly basis.

Check-In Service
-
One of the fears the elderly have when they live alone is that something could happen to them and no one would know. They could fall, become injured or ill and not reach out for help. Providing a check-in service alleviates the worry. Call your clients twice a day at specified times. If they answer you'll know they're safe. If they don't answer, you'll know there is a problem. Arrange ahead of time with the client what course of action you'll take in that situation. Options include calling a neighbor, a family member or the police.
Chauffeur
-
Provide transportation services on a monthly basis to seniors who need to visit the doctor, go to the dentist, go shopping or get to meetings. The service could be priced on a certain number of hours, say eight hours per month for a fee of $150, on mileage or on say two trips per week. You will need a chauffeur's license and to change your auto insurance.
