Bicycle Storage Ideas
While providing relatively cheap transportation and a healthful lifestyle, bicycles can be cumbersome items to store. An adult bicycle can easily consume one corner of a bedroom and nearly every inch of available space in the back of a vehicle. Transporting a bicycle by airplane is simply out of the question without a proper storage case. Several solutions exist to make bicycles easier to store and even transport during vehicular or air travel. Does this Spark an idea?

Indoor Storage
-
Bicycle indoor storage units come in various designs to accommodate any need. Generally, units are either freestanding or somehow mounted, either to a wall or ceiling beam. A mounted unit may be the least intrusive option. Both the unit and the bicycle are removed from the floor space, making either one virtually impossible to trip over. Freestanding units are better for garages and other facilities where there is likely to be less foot traffic.
Vehicle Storage
-
Bicycle storage racks can be mounted to just about any vehicle. Generally, racks are mounted either to the roof, hitch or trunk of the vehicle. The bicycle is safely transported while also freeing space inside the vehicle for passengers and luggage. While roof racks are a more permanent solution, truck racks tend to be the more cost-efficient option. Roof mount racks normally require an existing factory issued or aftermarket luggage rack for mounting.

Travel
-
Whether traveling by car or plane, a designated bicycle travel case allows a bicycle to be transported compactly and safely. Both soft and hard cases are available. In both instances, some disassembling of the bicycle is required to fit the bicycle inside the case. Larger, hard-shell cases may have casters for easier transport.
Disassembly
-
When personal budget doesn't allow for the purchase of costly storage units and car racks, the option exists to simply disassemble various parts of the bicycle to make it more compact. Many bicycles today feature quick-release levers for "quick" removal and installation of certain parts. These levers are on the wheels and seat post. By removing both wheels and the seat post, you can convert a bicycle to a manageable size and place it inside a closet or car trunk.
