Travel Agency Marketing Ideas
Marketing a travel agency can be a challenge. There is a great deal of competition from other agents, carriers that prefer to sell direct and resorts that are selling their own travel packages. Help your company stand out by using some good marketing ideas. Try a combination of ideas to move your agency ahead of the pack.
-
Specialize
-
Specialize in a particular area or in a specific kind of travel package. For example, put together a wide variety of trips to the Florida Keys, or become known as a travel agency that sells packages to the best fishing spots in the world. When you specialize in a particular kind of travel package, it helps you to better determine your target audience. This will assist you in creating more focused and effective advertising campaigns.
Groups
-
Work with civic and private groups to develop vacation packages that would appeal to them. For example, discuss vacation ideas with members of your local retirement community to see what their preferences would be. Once you have a vacation that appeals to one set of retirees, begin marketing it to other retirement communities. Other groups to consider are local VFW and American Legion posts, church groups, business groups and professional organizations.

Corporations
-
Network with the companies in your area to offer your services as their travel agent. Schedule in-depth interviews with the people in charge of coordinating travel within each company to determine the company's more common destinations and preferred methods of travel. Create a file for each person within the companies who will be traveling and keep track of important information such as any special hotel requests, special travel needs and preferred method of payment.
Holidays
-
Create travel packages specifically for holidays, such as Christmas and Halloween. Christmas packages can include skiing in the mountains or enjoying the warmer weather in Florida. Or put together European and cruise travel packages during Christmas. For Halloween, create tours of some of the most famous haunted towns and places in the world. Work with local tour directors to come up with weekend trips and get the tour companies to help you market your trips as well.
