Tips on Successful Selling
According to the website Princeton Review, people in sales must be able to deal with rejection and unhappy customers. They must also be doggedly persistent, have a genuine interest in helping people and must consistently apply proven sales techniques.

Goals
-
Not having goals is like getting on a plane and telling the pilot: "Take me anywhere. I don't care." When you pick a goal, pick one that meets your needs. A salesperson sets daily, weekly, monthly and annual goals. An example of a goal would be increasing sales by 12 percent. Sales are driven by presentations. Presentations are derived from appointments. Appointments come from contacts.
An effective salesperson tracks all of these metrics and regularly checks on how his actual activities compare to planned activities.
Extra
-
According to the site Bright Bulb, a salesperson should go the extra mile by under-promising and over-delivering. Once a prospect becomes a customer, the salesperson should make sure that his customers wouldn't think of going to a competitor because of the level of service the salesperson and his support team are providing.

Positive
-
According to the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center, positive attitude is a must for a salesperson. Each morning when you wake up think about the things you can be thankful for. Think about what you have to look forward to for the day. If negative thoughts enter your mind, immediately dismiss them for your mind. You can control your thoughts and stay positive.
Keep a genuine interest in people and in their well being. Your helping attitude will show, and it will differentiate you from others.
Listen
-
Listen carefully to your prospects and customers instead of being intent on what you want to say next. Accept the viewpoint of the person speaking to you. Use body language and eye contact to indicate you are interested in what the other person is saying. Repeat what the other person is saying to indicate you understand. When listening to someone, avoid interruptions such as answering the phone unless absolutely necessary. Letting yourself get distracted makes it look like you don't care.
Reliability
-
According to the site Small Business Bible, a good salesperson does not make promises he can't keep. Do what you promise you will do. Follow up with others in your organization to make sure they provide a high level of service and that they exhibit the same reliability that you exhibit.
