Outdoor Team Building Games for Trainers

Company trainers increasingly are using team-building activities and games to motivate employees and help them work and bond as one cohesive unit. Trainers use team-building games as icebreaker tools to develop effective team-working relationships. Team members work together in an informal environment and must depend on each other for success. Team-building games show employees that the company is willing to give back and reward their work and helps employees feel more connected with the organization.

  1. Outdoor Obstacle Race

    • The outdoor obstacle race occurs in an urban setting and is made up of a series of challenges that teams must overcome within a time limit with only a basic backpack of supplies. The race involves different adventures such as hiking, kayaking, biking and rock-climbing and requires team members to work together by aligning each other's intellectual and physical abilities to develop a common strategy. Teams use the outdoor obstacle race to practice and develop problem-solving and communication skills in a group environment.

    RIB Treasure Hunt

    • RIB treasure hunts are water-based treasure hunts and can be exhilarating and intriguing experiences for employees. They involve challenges such as scavenger hunts, retrieving sunken objects and solving cryptic puzzles -- all on a high-speed RIB, a rigid inflatable boat. Each team receives required accessories such as maps, clues, waterproof cameras and life jackets. Team members must rely on each other to find the treasures. This high-pressure and energy-filled adventure does much to energize and motivate teams, teaching problem solving and consensus building when time and resources are limited.

    Team Sailing

    • Team sailing helps to forge team dynamics. The changing winds present opportunities to teach teams how to work together in a fickle environment. It teaches teams how to handle mistakes and share risks as a group and how to share and delegate responsibilities such as tackling, manning and handling a line. The objective of team sailing is to get the whole team back to the harbor. At the harbor, teams examine their overall effectiveness by analyzing the team sailing tactics and strategies.

    The Parmesan Job

    • The Parmesan Job is an outdoor event based on the movie, "The Italian Job." Each team member accepts a character role based on the film and teams must complete a customized "Italian Job" by following a clue trail in a covert fashion. As team members work together to achieve job objectives, villains stationed throughout the route try to hinder the job. The game is a fun-filled adventure where team success depends on trust and coordination between team members in an uncertain environment.
