Types of LG Fridges

The right fridge fits perfectly in your kitchen and provides easy access to your items.

LG is the leader at producing bottom freezer refrigerators, according to Consumer Reports, yet they've expanded to include five different models to fit different budgets and space restrictions. From freezers located on the top, bottom or side of the fridge to fridges that split vertically instead of horizontally, LG offers a wide choice for those in search of the best fridge for their home. Keep your budget, available space and desired features in mind when comparing different models. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Top Fridges

    • The top fridge features a freezer on top and the refrigerator part on bottom. This is the traditional style of refrigerator and also the cheapest of the LG models with a price tag starting at $800 as of December 2010. The wide shelf area provides plenty of space for storing items and allows the owner to reach the back of the fridge or freezer without moving items aside. It does not come with an ice maker, however, and requires enough room for the wide door to swing open.

    Bottom Fridges

    • The bottom fridge is similar in price and design to the top fridge with one exception. As the name suggests, the freezer is on the bottom while the fridge is on top. Since the fridge is typically used more than the freezer, this is beneficial to prevent unnecessary bending or stooping to see the fridge's contents. It also carries a low price tag and comes with the same drawbacks as the top fridge model.

    French Doors

    • French door models split vertically, allowing you to open one half of the refrigerator at a time. The freezer is located in the bottom and pulls out. The three-door version includes one large bottom freezer drawer while LG's newer four-door version includes two smaller freezer drawers in the bottom of the refrigerator which pull out separately. The French door style works well in small kitchens with little space to open the doors. The wide design still allows easy access to the back of the fridge. Often an ice maker and water dispenser is located in one door. The owner still needs to bend over to reach into the freezer and these models carry the highest price tag of all the LG fridges.

    Side-By-Side

    • Finally, for those looking for a fridge falling in the middle of the price range, LG offers side-by-side fridges featuring one half refrigerator and the other half freezer. The fridge is made of two doors which run vertically and divide the fridge in half. The freezer half typically includes an ice maker and water dispenser. While the model is a good fit for narrow spaces and those with lower budgets, it does present some challenges in reaching and storing items. The narrow design makes the back of the shelves harder to reach and wide items, such as pizza boxes, may not fit, according to ConsumerReports.org.
