Team-Building & Training Courses
Team building is the process of taking individuals and creating training courses in which a goal is accomplished. These individuals might come from the same workplace or they might come from various groups. Team building is sometimes used in conjunction with training courses. In fact, one of the functions of team building is to train individuals to work together. Training courses that work with team building also help individuals and groups discover their strengths and weaknesses.

Purpose
-
There are many purposes to using team-building and training courses. One purpose is to energize the individuals attending. People get burned out in their jobs and going through some team-building training courses can provide a break from the routine. Many team-building training courses emphasize that team-building courses are also designed to improve morale. Yet another purpose in team-building and training courses is to create working relationships. Working in a course as a team within a learning environment can carry over into the workplace when the training course has ended.
Process
-
The process within team building is a relatively simple one. There is usually an introductory module within the training course in the form of a questionnaire. Once completed, the questionnaires are used to determine an individual's weaknesses and strengths. Then, a team-building course is designed that will address each strength and weakness and use them to facilitate building a strong team.

Components
-
When looking for a good training course and team-building program, it's important to make sure the course emphasizes the creation of a team. This means there is usually no "boss" assigned to the group. Another area to examine is to find training courses and team-building programs that can be converted into workplace experience.
Considerations
-
Before engaging in team building or attending training courses, it is important to make sure that it is needed. If there is a single individual who can do most of what is required but needs a little outside assistance, team-building and training courses might not be needed. However, if it is determined that the team-building and training courses are necessary, participants should have the objectives clearly defined. This helps provide focus during the training and the exercises. In addition, it is important that the participants understand that information has to be flowing freely in all directions. This means that individuals or even small groups that have an adversarial relationship have to focus their efforts on working as a team.
