From Detroit, the Canadian city of Windsor’s casino is easily accessible by car or bus via the Ambassador Bridge or Detroit Windsor Tunnel. Caesars Windsor Casino and Hotel, less than a mile from the bridge, overlooks Detroit from its location on Windsor’s waterfront. While the U.S. bans under-21 visitors from bars and casinos, the minimum age is 19 to visit a drinking or gaming facility in Ontario. Since 2009, a U.S. passport is required to travel to Canada for most visitors ages 16 and up.
On Lakefront Lines
Lakefront Lines Inc. buses offer one-day and multiple-day excursions to Caesars Windsor from Detroit, Cleveland, Akron and other cities in Michigan and Ohio. Ride a Lakefront Lines bus to Caesars and you’ll receive complimentary vouchers to spend in the casino, which has 100,000 square feet of gaming space, restaurants, nightclubs and two towers with more than 750 hotel rooms.
Greyhound Bus Co. in the U.S. offers regular service through the Detroit Windsor Tunnel to Windsor. Visitors from any U.S. city with Greyhound service can connect through Detroit to continue to Windsor. Once you reach Windsor, you can take a taxi or city-run Transit Windsor bus to the casino. Although U.S. passports generally are required for travel to Canada, states such as Michigan can issue enhanced driver’s licenses and enhanced state identification cards that can be substituted for passports when traveling to Canadian border cities.
By Tunnel Bus
In Canada, the city of Windsor runs Transit Windsor, which operates the Detroit Windsor Tunnel Bus between the two cities. Buses traveling between countries require travelers to fill out and submit customs forms indicating what they are bringing to and from their destination. Visit the website of U.S. Customs Border Protection to learn what is and isn't allowed by U.S. authorities.
By Chartered Bus
If you’re traveling as a group, Indian Trails Inc. offers chartered bus trips to Windsor’s casino from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. The advantage of chartered buses is that you can plan the itinerary instead of relying on a bus company’s published schedule. Indian Trails also arranges for complimentary vouchers to use in the casino at Caesars Windsor.
While In Windsor
Visit Riverfront Park, which has sculpture gardens, restaurants, art galleries and lots of green spaces. From the park, you can point coin-operated telescopes toward downtown Detroit. The city is home to more than 200 parks. Or visit Windsor’s Via Italia, a street lined with Italian restaurants.
