There are several differences between xenon light bulbs and incandescent light bulbs. Each type of light bulb has several practical applications. Perhaps the biggest difference between these two types of light bulbs is their rated life.

Fill Gas

Xenon lights are named such because of the xenon content in their fill gas. According to ArticlesM.com, xenon light bulbs employ xenon gas to increase the life of the bulb. Early incandescent light bulbs employed no fill gases and instead, featured a vacuum. Eventually, incandescent light bulbs began to feature argon or argon-nitrogen mixtures as their fill gas, which slows filament evaporation.

Rated Life

Overall, xenon light bulbs will last much longer than incandescent light bulbs. A typical xenon light bulb can last for anywhere between 8,000 and 20,000 hours. Incandescent light bulbs, on the other hand, are only rated to last for around 750 hours.

Applications

Both types of light bulbs have countless applications. They can be used both indoors and outdoors in most lighting fixtures. Xenon light bulbs are increasingly being featured as headlights in luxury automobiles.

Features

Unlike fluorescent light bulbs, both incandescent and xenon light bulbs can easily be hooked up to dimmer switches. Utilizing dimming mechanisms with these light bulbs can increase the overall life of both types of light bulbs.

Facts

According to XenonLightShid.com, xenon lights are used as headlights because the whitish-blue light emitted by xenon lights produces clearer visibility.
