Things to Do With Kids in Jekyll Island, Georgia
Once an exclusive winter retreat for the rich and famous, Jekyll Island, Georgia, provides families with an exciting place to visit and learn a bit about its rich history. The island is full of outdoor adventure and leisurely activities sure to please kids and adults alike. Thankfully, you don't have to be a member of the "club" anymore to get there.

Water Fun

Offshore Charters (offshore-charters.com) will take you and the kids on fishing trips including night shark, reef fishing and inshore fishing. For those uninterested in fishing, a cruise along the shores of the area is also available. Captain Phillip's Charter and Tours (captainphillip.com) will take you cruising through the waterways in search of bottlenose dolphins. Summer Waves (jekyllisland.com/summer-waves) is a water park complete with six water slides, lazy rivers, wave pools and kiddie pools for the toddlers.
Tours and Museums

Three Oaks Farm Equestrian Services (threeoakscarriageandtrail.com) provides carriage rides through the historic area of Jekyll Island. You will see the cottages of Rockefeller, Macy and Goodyear, who frequented the island as a part of the "club." You can take a horseback ride along the beach, too. The Jekyll Island Museum (jekyllisland.com/history/musuem) has several exhibits and artifacts that shed light on the history of the island. The museum offers guided tours reliving many of the past stories of the millionaire tycoons, French settlers and American Indians, who all have a part in the history of the region.

Wildlife and Nature

The 4-H Tidelands Nature Center (tidelands4h.org) has exciting exhibits and live animal displays that will entrance the kids. You and the kids can see the sea turtles, alligators, fish, crabs and snakes while learning about the natural habitats of Jekyll Island. Kayaking tours of the salt marshes are offered, too. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center (georgiaseaturtlecenter.org) is a place for rescued sea turtles to find care. Many sea turtles are found abandoned along the shores of the region. Visitors can interact with the turtles and learn about these amazing creatures.
Beaches

Jekyll Island has several beaches for recreation (jekyllisland.com/beaches). Driftwood Beach would be a fun place for kids to sift through the beautiful pieces of driftwood, play in the sand or take a swim. Great Dunes Park provides several amenities including playgrounds, picnic areas, volleyball courts and bike paths. A pavilion by the beach is often used for events and concerts. Glory Beach is known for the scenes shot in the movie "Glory," and would be another excellent option.
