DB2 GUI Tools
Though you can perform many management tasks on IBM’s DB2 database using Structured Query Language commands, it’s often easier to use GUI tools. By clicking on graphical buttons and selecting items with pull-down menus, you can quickly accomplish many chores, including connecting to databases, running diagnostics and managing user security.

Control Center
-
The Control Center is a general-purpose GUI tool that lets you perform a variety of maintenance tasks, including backups, database creation, loading data into databases and examining database structures. It accomplishes all these without typed commands to memorize; instead, it uses wizards and other standard GUI tools. The Control Center offers three different visual modes: Basic, Advanced and Custom. The Basic mode shows only essential information and operations, Advanced displays all DB2 database actions and objects and Custom lets you select the types of database objects and actions you want to see. From the Control Center, you can launch other DB2 utility programs such as the Task Center.
Configuration Assistant
-
A benefit of networked databases is the ability to connect to them from distant locations around the world, and use them as if they were on a local computer. DB2’s Configuration Assistant helps you find and connect to networked database servers. As with the Control Center, Configuration Assistant uses wizards to guide you through the task of connecting to databases.

Health Center
-
The DB2 Health Center continuously monitors database servers for vital parameters such as memory, CPU capacity and hard drive space. The Health Center lets you set up alerts that send you a warning or automatically take corrective actions if parameters exceed limits you set. According to your preferences, the alert sends you an email if a database runs out of memory or unused disk space. The Health Center runs on desktop PCs, Web browsers and mobile devices such as smartphones, allowing you to receive alerts and investigate them remotely.
Task Center
-
The DB2 database server supports automated, independent processes called tasks. As an example, you can create a task to back up your database at midnight; the backup waits until the scheduled time, performs the backup and finishes without any user intervention. The Task Center lets you create, schedule and monitor tasks. When the tasks complete, the Task Center lets you check to see if they completed normally or ended prematurely. You can have a task send you an email if a problem caused it to terminate.
