Flowers
-
Bring natural beauty to your cupcakes by decorating with real flowers. Make certain you use organic flowers, free of pesticides, from your garden or local farmers market. Small flowers, like lilacs, lavender or pansies, serve as colorful cupcake toppers and remain safe to eat. If the thought of using real flowers makes you nervous, pick up a bundle of silk flowers from any arts and crafts store.
Fresh Fruit
-
Use colorful slices of fresh fruit to decorate your cupcakes. For instance, placing kiwi slices on top of a coconut cupcake not only adds a pop of green color, but also plays up the treat’s tropical taste. You can top cupcakes with strawberry, pineapple and banana slices as well. For an added bit of decoration, cut the strawberries into fan-shaped slices or dip them in chocolate. Decorate the cupcake with multiple strands of thin and curly orange or lemon rinds.

Candy
-
Add a sweet taste to your cupcake by choosing different candy toppings. For a real pop of color and a mixture of unique flavors, drape the cupcake with a variety of sour gummy worms. Spell out messages using brightly colored candy beads. On cupcakes without any frosting, get the candy to stick by gently pressing and embedding the candy into the cake. Use candy in various forms as well. For instance, give a cupcake a minty flavor by sticking a chocolate peppermint patty halfway inside the cupcake. Melt another patty in the microwave and lightly drizzle the minty chocolate liquid over the cupcake.
Florentine Cookie
-
Topping a cupcake with a Florentine cookie gives the cupcake a uniquely patterned appearance. Bake the light and thin cookies using a combination of chopped almonds, condensed milk, honey and raisins. Place the cookie on the cupcake and seal the two treats together by drizzling melted chocolate over the top. The nearly transparent cookie creates a lattice and textured look for the cupcake.
