Problems With the Linkgrabber in JDownloader
JDownloader is a free download manager that is distributed in versions for multiple operating systems. If you are experiencing problems with the Linkgrabber tab in JDownloader, the issue may be related to your system’s clipboard or the link you are attempting to copy. But if problems with the Linkgrabber tab persist, then it may be necessary to run a software update on your version of JDownloader.
-
Background
-
JDownloader streamlines file transfers from one-click hosting sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload and Hotfile. The application enables users to override the restrictions that are usually imposed by these services, like mandatory wait times and daily download limits. With JDownloader, users can also circumvent the CAPTCHA forms and pop-up ads that are typically found on one-click hosting sites.
Installation
-
JDownloader can be obtained directly from the software developer website. Simply click the “Download” tab on the homepage and select the version of JDownloader that is compatible with your operating system. The utility is available in editions for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. After you have downloaded the setup file, launch the applications and follow the on-screen instructions to install the program.

Use
-
To use JDownloader, run the application and copy the direct URL to the file you wish to download from the one-click hosting site. The link will be saved to your system’s clipboard. Click the “Linkgrabber” tab in JDownloader and the direct URL will be loaded in the application. Highlight the listing for the direct URL and click the “Download” button. The application will initiate the file transfer from the one-click hosting site. Click the “Download” tab to monitor the progress of the file transfer. A confirmation message will appear when the download has finished. Right-click the listing for the downloaded file and select “Open Directory” from the fly-out menu. The default storage location for the downloaded file will open.
Troubleshooting
-
If you are experiencing problems using the Linkgrabber tab in JDownloader, the direct URL to the file you want to download is not being stored in your clipboard. Make sure that you are selecting the Copy command whenever you highlight the link. If you have confirmed that you are selecting the Copy command, it is possible that the application you are grabbing the information from does not support your system’s clipboard. If this is the case, then try copying the link from an alternate application like a Web browser or a text editor. But if problems with the Linkgrabber tab persist, then it is probable that the direct URL you are attempting to download from does not point to a one-click hosting site. It may be a link to a private server or a cloud storage service.
Resolution
-

To ensure that you are using the latest edition of the application, click the “Check for New Updates Icon.” If updates any updates are available, follow the on-screen instructions to make your version of JDownloader current.
