Sandbox is a feature offered by several different antivirus software programs, including Avast!.

Some Avast! antivirus software programs include a feature called Sandbox, which allows you to run a Web page in a separate window to prevent any harmful viruses or spyware from being transferred to your computer. Avast! Sandbox can be run with several programs, including the Mozilla Firefox browser. If Sandbox isn't working with your Firefox browser, the problem may be with the browser or with Avast! software.

  1. Clear Your Cache

    • Your Internet browser's cache is designed to help you load Web pages faster. By storing pictures, videos and pages in your browser's memory you can load the pages faster the next time you open them. However, sometimes this causes older versions of websites to be loaded, resulting in buggy pages. These buggy pages can cause problems with your browser or its add-ons. Empty your Firefox cache before attempting to use the Avast! Sandbox feature to see if this fixes your problem.

    Update Firefox

    • Running an outdated version of Firefox may make the browser incompatible with other applications, including Avast! Sandbox. This is because the browser sends and receives communications to your computer's operating system (OS). There are also bugs that occasionally get programmed into certain versions of applications. Often, these bugs are resolved in newer versions of the apps. If your Firefox browser is outdated, then the communications it sends and receives from the OS -- as well as other apps -- may not be understood by Firefox. Update to the latest version of Firefox from the Mozilla website.

    Reinstall Firefox

    • If updating your Firefox browser didn't fix your problem, do a clean reinstall. Removing all components of your old Firefox and installing a completely new version will ensure that all traces of bugs associated with the previous version of Firefox will be eliminated. To remove your old version of Firefox, open the Control Panel and then select "Uninstall a Program." Find Mozilla Firefox in the list of programs and then choose it to uninstall it. Go to Mozilla's website to download the newest version of Firefox and then install it.

    Delete Sandbox Contents

    • The Avast! Sandbox is a separate environment specifically designed to scan for and quarantine spyware, malware and viruses. Because these contents are inherently harmful, it can sometimes be helpful to delete them. Even though the contents are quarantined, deleting the sandbox's contents can help clear out any bugs you're experiencing with the program. To delete the Avast! Sandbox contents, open the Avast! antivirus software and then click the "Additional Protection" button, followed by the "Sandbox" option and finally the "Expert Settings" button. Under the "Maintenance" section, click "Web Browsers" and then select "Delete Contents." Exit Mozilla and log back into it through Sandbox to make sure everything is working properly.
