A 2Wire PC Card Will Not Connect
A computer uses a hardware component called a wireless network card, or wireless network adapter, to find local Wi-Fi hot spots. The 2Wire PC Card enables the PC to connect to 802.11g and 802.11b networks, which are two of the most common specifications for Wi-Fi technology. Internet connectivity problems can occur, however, when the hardware or software are misconfigured or faulty.

Software Driver
-
The PC Card is packaged with a CD that contains the software needed to enable operation of the card from within the operating system. Failing to install the associated software prevents the OS from accessing the capabilities of the device. On the CD is a program called a software driver that links together the hardware and the software; without it, the network module in Windows can't send commands to the 2Wire device. Check the Network Adapters section in Device Manager, found in the Control Panel, to see if the 2Wire device is present; if not, install the applicable software to the PC.
Disabled Adapter
-
The Network Connections screen offers the option to turn the wireless adapter on or off. If the adapter is disabled, the operating system will behave as if the 2Wire PC Card doesn't exist. Network Connections is accessed through the Control Panel or via the Network and Sharing Center. If the icon for Wireless Network Connection is gray, the adapter is turned off.

Device Malfunction
-
If the 2Wire PC Card fails to connect to the Internet, the card itself could be broken. Confirm that the speakers aren't muted, then remove and reconnect the PC Card to the CardBus slot on the side of the notebook. If Windows recognizes the device, it lets out a "bing" noise; otherwise, it remains silent. If other computers fails to recognize the PC Card as well, the device should be replaced.
Network Problems
-
If the wireless 2Wire PC Card can sign on to your home network but won't connect to the Internet, the problem could be with the network itself. If the Internet service is down or if the wireless router is disconnected from the modem, the computer will be able to see and detect the wireless network, but won't be able to go online. Alternatively, if the computer sees the network but can't connect to it, the computer could be banned; administrators can block unrecognized or specific clients from accessing the network. If you're the administrator of the network and you've changed your WLAN adapter's media access address, sign on to the network console and add the client to the allow list.
