Alcatel SpeedTouch USB Will Not Connect

The Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem is a device that allows computers to access the Internet through a DSL phone link. Although it is typically able to synchronize with the computer, the Speedtouch modem occasionally fails in its attempts to connect to the computer and phone line. These types of failures are in relation to the device’s internal and external links.

  1. Settings

    • Some issues involving the Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem’s failure to connect to a computer are related to the device’s virtual path identifier or virtual channel identifier settings. These settings enable the modem to establish a link to your Internet service provider and, when not set properly, can cause connection failure. Contact your ISP to obtain the proper VPI or VCI settings, which you need to enter into the browser’s network configuration settings interface. This feature is typically found in the browser application’s Internet options folder or menu which is found at the top of the user interface window.

    Cables and Wires

    • The Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem requires a wired link to work properly. If you do not insert the wire fully, the modem will not connect to the computer or Internet. Check these wires and cables to make sure they are properly inserted to the computer’s USB port on one end and to your Internet connection’s phone line on the other. When this link is in place, the modem displays two green lights, the left light indicating an active link to the computer and the right light showing a connection to the phone line.

    Restart

    • Going longer than a month without restarting your Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem can cause the device to not correct to the Internet or your computer. Restart the modem by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. If your modem is connected to a wireless router, disconnect the router while restarting the modem and plug it back into the device once it has completed the restart process. Restart the modem at least once a month to avoid future connection failure issues.

    Hard Reset

    • If your troubleshooting efforts fail to reconnect the Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem to your computer or Internet connection, hard resetting the device may be an effective way to resolve the problem. Locate the reset hole on the back of the modem, then insert the tip of a ballpoint pen into the hold while you turn on the modem. Hold the button down until the modem’s lights flash simultaneously. This process resets the device to its original settings and can help reestablish its connections.
