Norton 360 Internet Connectivity Problems
Norton 360 is a software program created by Symantec to protect computers against viruses, malware and other security risks. The Norton 360 package offers more than a simple anti-virus program – it also has parental controls and manages the performance of your computer. Because Norton 360 protects you from security risks, it may inadvertently block out necessary computer functions, such as your Internet connection. However, adjusting the settings after installation may fix any issues.

Proxy Servers
-
Because Norton products are designed to keep your computer safe, proxy settings must be added in the Norton 360 control panel. Proxy servers screen requests to access the Internet and Web pages to ensure there is no risk of a security breach. If Norton 360 is having problems connecting to the LiveUpdate server, proxy settings may be incorrect. If no proxies are being used, all of the choices under the “Proxy” settings should be unchecked, while updated information should be entered into the settings if proxies are being used.
Malware
-
Malware is malicious software that is usually unknowingly installed on a computer. Malware consists of worms and viruses, which can cause undesirable computer behavior, hijack computer programs and steal confidential information. Norton products are designed to identify malware threats and take preset precautions to keep the infected computer from accessing the Internet or other computer networks. Ridding the computer of the malware or changing the settings within the Norton console can restore Internet connectivity. However, if the malware isn't deleted, it is possible to infect other connected computers or send the malware to friends and family.

Trusted Network
-
Connecting to any network creates risks that may expose confidential and personal information stored on your computer. However, if the network is owned by you and it is password protected and encrypted, the network should be trustworthy. Oftentimes, Internet connectivity problems with Norton 360 stem from the home network somehow being listed as untrustworthy. Adjusting the settings for your network in the Norton control panel should fix the issue. Move your network information to the “Trusted” location. Also add your network information and firewall settings.
Connections
-
Internet connectivity problems can be caused by several things, such as new software installations, conflicting settings or issues with hardware or cables. After checking the network settings on Norton 360, check that your hardware is connected properly, plugged in and has tight-fitting cables. Check your recorded wireless networks in the Control Panel portion on the computer, as well as checking all wired cables in the network setup. Restarting or resetting equipment can also often solve an Internet connectivity problem.
Update Errors
-
It isn't uncommon for bugs and known issues to arise with software programs and updates. Some Norton 2009 products had known issues connecting to the LiveUpdate servers to update the Norton software. The error message involved reported that a connection to the LiveUpdate server could not be established and a full computer scan should be completed. However, after acknowledging the problem, Norton released a download that can be applied to the affected 2009 products to fix the connectivity problem.
