ITunes security errors can often be solved by several troubleshooting steps.

ITunes Genius needs to communicate with the iTunes store in order to recommend music to you. If you're running into problems it could be caused by Kapersky anti-virus software, but sometimes it's hard to tell which program is actually causing the problem. You might have to reconfigure the Kapersky software's settings, but also troubleshoot for other potential security problems.

  1. Computer Settings

    • Before making any changes to your security software, make sure that your computer's settings are optimal for iTunes. The date, time and time zone should all be correct. You should also run the latest version of iTunes available from Apple and install Windows updates. Also check for updates to your router or modem's firmware; refer to your Internet service provider's website for instructions on how to do this.

    Kapersky Updates

    • For Kapersky programs to work optimally they need to have all available updates installed and running. To check for updates from your desktop, click on the Kapersky logo in the Windows System Tray, located in the lower right corner of your screen. Click "Update Center" and "Run Update." Set the updates to run automatically if they don't already. Once Kapersky is up-to-date, run a full system scan.

    Kapersky Configuration

    • If Kapersky is still interfering with iTunes Genius after you have adjusted your computer's settings and updated all relevant software, re-configuring the program's settings should resolve the problem. Kapersky can automatically adjust to work with the applications installed on your computer. Open program settings by clicking on the Kapersky logo in your Windows System Tray and click "Settings" in the upper right corner. Then click "Restore" in the lower left corner to launch the Configuration Wizard and follow the instructions.

    Windows Firewall

    • Your Windows firewall can also block certain functions in iTunes if not properly configured. To change configurations, open the Control Panel from the Start menu. Click "System and Security" and select "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall" underneath "Windows Firewall." Click the "Change Settings" button and select the iTunes check box. Make sure that the check box in the "Public" column is also selected so iTunes can communicate with the iTunes Store. Click "OK" when you are done.

    Other Errors

    • Other errors can occur when connecting to the iTunes store that are unrelated to Kapersky. If you've performed all the updates and configuration necessary for Windows, iTunes and Kapersky but you still have a problem, note of any error messages you receive while running iTunes. Refer to help from Apple to determine what to do with specific error messages.
