How to Customize a Majorette Uniform
A majorette is part of a marching band -- usually a school marching band -- and performs as part of the halftime entertainment. A majorette dances as she twirls a baton or a flag. There are many ways for a school to customize a majorette's uniform to reflect school colors and spirit.
-
Fabric
-
The choice of fabric can make a big difference in the look of a majorette's costume. Consider the difference between a velvety plush and sequins, or between a lace and metallic material. Since a majorette often performs alone, or in front of the band, her uniform is often decked in sequins or metallic fabric.
Color
-
A majorette's costume almost always reflects her school colors. These may be neon colors over most of the costume and impossible to miss, or a subtle applique or patch on a mostly black or white costume. The choice of whether to go big and bold or small and subtle is one way to customize a majorette's uniform.

Design
-
The design of the costume is one of the most obvious ways to customize a majorette's uniform. Will the uniform feature a bolero jacket or an off-the-shoulder, asymmetrical cut? Will the costume have a skirt, shorts or slacks? Will it be a one-piece bodysuit, or a two-piece costume? Will the look be that of a traditional majorette's costume, or a more modern, jazz-dance design?
Accessories
-
Accessories are the easiest way to individualize a costume. A majorette can choose to wear a cowboy hat, a feathered headdress or a sequined bowler. She may wear long metallic gloves, a sequined belt or a skirt with foot-long fringe. She may wear hair jewels, large rhinestone earrings, bracelets or rings, or may even purchase hair extensions so that she can swing a long ponytail in time to the music.
