What Is the Logic Board in a Computer?
A main logic board is a component of Apple computers. It is a large circuit board that into which other devices and components are connected. In PCs, this component is known as the “motherboard,” though the two devices are analogous and perform the same functions in their respective machines.

The main logic board is a large PCB (printed circuit board) that forms the heart of the computer. It contains a number of ports to connect additional components, some of which can be removed and upgraded, such as the CPU (central processing unit), RAM (random access memory) and hard disk drive. The main logic board also connects to the power supply, and contains the system firmware, which is similar to the BIOS (binary input output system) found in Windows computers and includes the system clock.

The main logic board serves the same purpose as the motherboard does on a PC. It provides slots into which the internal components of the computer attach, and it integrates the operation of these different components using logic integrated circuits – from which the board's name derives. The ports on the back of the computer into which the keyboard and other peripherals are connected link directly with the main logic board.

The first Apple Computer, now known as the Apple I, was an all-in-one unit, with no upgrade slots. In fact, initially this computer was sold purely as the logic board, without even a case. The next model, the Apple II, was the first to feature expansion slots for components like graphics and sound cards. Although the concept of the main board has changed, the name has remained the same.

Each apple product has its own associated main logic board, including the Macbook Pro, iPad, and Mac Mini. Logic boards are not interchangeable between Apple products, and sometimes they are not interchangeable between different versions of the same product – this has always been the case with Apple products, where even the Apple III from 1980 had two types of main logic boards. When replacing or repairing motherboards, seek advice from qualified dealers to ensure the correct type for your model is used.
