What Is a Promethean Board?
Promethean is a manufacturer of digital, interactive boards that let you write on their surfaces using an electronic pen and transfer the writing to your computer. The devices are white in color and the pen works like a computer mouse. Promethean boards connect to one of your computer’s Universal Serial Bus or USB ports and are available in a variety of sizes and models.

ActivInspire gives you a workspace to enter text, images, videos and other content you want to relay to others. The program includes an array of digital tools including color switches, paintbrushes and pen tips for coloring and highlighting words, images and other objects on your Promethean board. ActivInspire also includes a user-friendly menu system and on-board help files on using the application.

The ActivBoard 587 Pro Promethean board is 87 inches wide and the ActivBoard 595 Pro is 95 inches wide. Both boards contain mounting kits, a 9-foot USB connection cable and digital pens. Other Promethean board models vary in size from 64 to 78 inches wide and also include mounting kits, connection cables and digital pens.

Promethean boards are compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. The software includes an installation wizard that guides you through installing and launching the board’s device driver and related software as well as the ActivInspire application. However, Promethean recommends that you schedule a certified Promethean installer to come out and install the board and its software for you.
