Will Any Caller ID Work With Verizon Phones?

Will Any Caller ID Work With Verizon Phones? thumbnail
Caller ID sometimes includes the name of the caller.

All Verizon phones have a pre-installed caller ID feature. You can only use the caller ID feature supplied by Verizon -- you cannot set up a third-party caller ID service on a Verizon phone. If a caller is not identified on your phone, it is not because her caller ID service is incompatible; the caller has either disabled her outgoing caller ID or her phone has no caller ID service.

  1. Verizon Caller ID

    • Caller ID is a feature which is included on any Verizon phone. You do not need to do anything special to activate or enable the caller ID on your device -- as soon as you activate Verizon service, your phone will have caller ID. Caller ID does not have any fees associated with it, and you cannot stop a caller's number from appearing on your phone.

    Caller's Settings

    • While incoming caller ID is always enabled on a Verizon phone, sometimes a caller will disable the feature for her number. If the person who is calling you has temporarily or permanently made her number restricted, it will not appear on your caller ID. In that case, there is nothing you can do to force the number to appear on your caller ID. Unidentified callers will always be directed to your voice mail where they can leave a message if you don't pick up.

    Caller's Phone

    • Most phones are capable of providing an outgoing caller ID, but in rare cases your caller may not have a device that is not enabled with outgoing caller ID. If the phone itself or the cell phone plan of your caller do not afford for caller ID, you will not see the number of the caller on your Verizon phone's screen when she calls you. Similarly, if the caller is in a rural region that cannot provide caller ID, your screen will say "Unknown" or "Blocked" when she calls.

    Considerations

    • If you receive a call and your caller ID does not identify the phone number of your caller, no further answers will be provided by looking at your monthly bill. Verizon cannot stop blocked numbers from calling your phone, but obviously you never have to answer a call from a blocked number.
