Which Asus Models Have Express Gate?

If short boot times are important to you, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with Express Gate. ASUS was the first manufacturer to offer computers with Express Gate already installed from the factory. Other manufacturers offer their own versions of the Splashtop software that Asus calls Express Gate. If you buy an Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG or Sony computer, a program with Express Gate’s functionality may be available -- but it may be called something else.

  1. Express Gate

    • Express Gate is a Linux-based “instant-on” quick booting option for your Windows-based PC. When you hit the Power button on your computer, you normally have to wait for it to boot before you can do anything. Depending on your computer, this can take a long time. If your computer has Express Gate installed, the Express Gate home screen pops up very quickly after you’ve turned on the computer. From there, you can quickly browse the Internet, use Skype, access media players or continue with your normal OS boot.

Asus Models Equipped with Express Gate

    • According to Splashtop, makers of Express Gate, several Asus models come with Express Gate already installed as of December 2011. These include the B50A, EeePC T91MT, EeePC 1101HA, EeePC 1201HA, EeePC 1001HA, EeePC 1005HA, F5C, F5Z, F6A, F6V, F8Tr, F8Va, F8Vr, F50Gx, F70SL, G50V, G50Vt, K40c, K40IJ, K50C, K50IJ, M50V, M50Vc, M51Va, M51Vr, M70T, M70Vm, M70Vr, N50Vn, N80Vc, U6V and V1V.

    Considerations

    • In 2008, Asus announced that it would also ship motherboards with Express Gate already installed. If you or someone you know likes to build computers from the ground up, this may be another option if you’re interested in trying Express Gate. Additionally, you can install Express Gate on supported versions of Windows directly from the Asus Web page. All you have to do is select which version of Windows you’re using from the drop-down menu at the top of the Asus Support for Notebook Express Gate page. You’ll then be directed to download links for the appropriate version of Express Gate for your OS.

    Warning

    • Express Gate is intended for users of smaller, less powerful computers to help create fast boot times. As a consequence, it doesn’t feature support for resolutions higher than 1280 x 800. If you’re using a large monitor on your computer, you may not appreciate the low resolution display for anything you do while using Express Gate. If you adjust the resolution setting, you may have to reboot your computer before you can use it with the new setting.
